Initial Exam and Consultation
The purpose of your first visit is to meet with Dr. Robinson to evaluate and discuss your treatment needs. Dr. R will review your medical and dental history and perform a clinical exam. He’ll then explain various treatment options, make recommendations and explain the reasons behind them. If, after all your questions have been answered, you are ready to begin orthodontic treatment, our treatment coordinator will discuss fees, possible insurance coverage and payment options with you.
Records Visit
Your next visit is the “records appointment,” during which diagnostic records are made to help determine the best course of treatment. This typically includes a panoramic radiograph, a cephalometric radiograph, facial and dental photographs, and impressions that are used to fabricate plaster study models. Dr. R uses these records to create your customized treatment plan and to track progress as your teeth move during the course of treatment.
Treatment Time
Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on growth and the severity of the problem. Patients grow at different rates and, consequently, respond to orthodontic treatment differently. Cooperation in wearing rubber bands (also called “elastics”), keeping your teeth clean and taking care of your braces as prescribed will also influence the length of time you’re in treatment.
Regular Appointments
The appointment when you get your appliances usually takes one to two hours. Once you’re wearing braces, you’ll see us at regular intervals every 4 to 8 weeks for an adjustment, which usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. At each regular visit, you’ll receive a “grade” for oral hygiene and elastic wear so you can keep track of your progress. Dr. R and his staff will carefully explain everything. If you have questions, be sure to ask!
It is essential that you come in at regular appointed times to insure that your treatment progresses as scheduled. We have made a sincere effort to arrange our appointment schedule in a way that enables us to serve all of our patients fairly and minimizes time away from school.
We set aside blocks of time each day for certain types of procedures. Longer appointments and emergencies are scheduled during school hours. After-school times are reserved for progress checks and appliance checks, so we can accommodate many patients for these short appointments. If you like, we’ll happily provide students with a written school excuse.
| Parents are welcome to watch the treatment process and ask questions whenever they like. |
 | Canceling Appointments
If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. This courtesy on your part makes it possible for us to give your appointment time to another patient. Since appointments are made 4 to 8 weeks in advance, it is difficult to reschedule and keep your treatment progressing as we would like. So please, cancel appointments only in emergencies!
Payment
Orthodontic treatment is an investment in the overall dental, medical and psychological well being of children and adults. The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient’s orthodontic problem, and we will discuss fees and payment options with you before treatment begins. To prevent financial considerations from being an obstacle to obtaining this important care, we offer a variety of payment options.
- Capital One Healthcare Finance offers payment plans for 24 to 48 months with no initial payment. OFP also offers a 60-month option for multiple family members. Click here to apply on-line or calculate monthly payments right now!
- Down Payment Plan. If you prefer, you may make monthly payments directly to our office after paying a down payment.
- Payment in Full. If you make full payment at the onset of treatment, we will extend a bookkeeping fee reduction.
We accept payment by cash, check, VISA, MASTERCARD, and DISCOVER, and offer family discounts for the second and subsequent family members we treat.
